    The object oriented finite element modeling system the authors have been developing describes the analysis model by entity-relationship model, in which the analysis model is divided into part objects. The mesh generation process of the system is as follows. First boundary nodes are generated. Second, inner nodes are generated for each part objects by using grid shaped cell. After that, the algorithm based on front method is used to make triangular elements. Finally, mesh refinement is carried out by combining triangular elements into quadrilateral ones if possible, because quadrilateral element is better than trianglular element from the viewpoint of accuracy. One drawback of the method is that, in the area such as in the vicinity of holes where the stress concentration likely to occur, it is hard to generate quadriateral elmements from triangle elements because combining those triangles results in distored quadrilateral elements. In this paper, a new inner node location technique around stress concentrated area for generation of quadrilateral elements is introduced. In this method, inner nodes are placed from the boundary and the placement progresses into internal area, instead of placing nodes on the grid shaped cell. The resulting elements around that area become mostly quadrilateral, and smooth graduation of element size becomes possible. Several examples of mesh generated by using this method are shown.
