From the ether-extracted residue of alcohol extract of fruit-body of Fornes pinicola, two substances, A [mp. 260-263°C (decomp.), [α]15D+ 8.6° (in pyridine)] and B [mp. 305-308°C (decomp.), [α]23D=+43° (in pyridine)] having their formula as C30H46O4 were isolated. They have one double bond and one carboxyl group, and were likely to belong to triterpenoid on color-reactions. In A one carbonyl group is ascertained as 2, 4-dinitrophenylhydrazone, but from B carbonyl derivative is not obtained. A gives a methyl ester mp. 181-181.5°C, [α]9D=+20.8° (in chloroform) and a monoacetate mp. 177-180°C, and B gives a methyleester mp. 178-178.5°C [α]9D=+44° (in chloroform) and, as an acetate, a needle crystal mp. 160-162°C, though its formula is corresponding to C32H46O8.
