Cryptomeria cuttings rooted more easily when they were collected from the lower region of crown in 1948. These were collected from six seedling trees of ca. 15 years old. In 1949, providedly 6 ca. 20 years old mother stocks of 12 native vegetative races were examined. Among these, the four races showed superior rooting in cuttings collected from the lower region, the other four races in the upper region and the remaining four races did not show significant difference. It requires, however, repeated examinations to state existence of the racial difference in rooting behavior concerning the region of collecting cuttings.
