    The drain, which was discharged from wastewater of shochu , was distilled with an apparatusfor multistage distillation column to decrease itsCOD value. A linear relationship between ethanolconcentration and COD value of the drain wasobserved, and it was revealed that ethanol participatedapproximately 70% in COD value. Fromthese results, it is considered that COD value is decreased by removing of ethanol from drain. Then, by distillating with various reflux ratio in mulistage distillation column, COD value of thedrain from the waste water of shochu could be decreased effectively with total reflux.
