摘要：Resumo A extensão universitária é parte orgânica do currículo na formação de educadores e profissionais, é uma das funções que compõem os pilares de uma Universidade. Neste trabalho é apresentada a idéia da extensão como processo voltado para articular ensino às demandas da realidade na qual está inserida. Implica uma dinâmica curricular com a incorporação, da experiência já vivida e pela dialeticidade entre o desenvolvimento teórico e sua construção pela prática, ultrapassando o limite da ciência técnica, colocando o homem como sujeito, ser histórico, numa visão sistêmica, em que está presente a dimensão política-social-humana. Tendo como base metodológica um estudo bibliográfico, são apresentadas discussões a respeito das recentes políticas educacionais que norteiam as atividades extensionistas no âmbito das instituições de ensino superior brasileiras. Conclui-se que a extensão inserida na dinâmica social possibilita ao futuro profissional o exercício político da relação teoria-práticavivência favorecendo o conhecimento do outro e de si mesmo e a formação de valores e atitudes de solidariedade, sensibilidade e amor, dimensões essenciais da formação integral. Abstract The university extension is an organic part of the curriculum at the educators' and professionals' formation, it's one of the functions that together are the pillars of a University. In this paper the idea of the validation of the extension is defended as directed process to articulate education to the demands of the reality in which it's inserted. It implies a curricular dynamics with the incorporation, of the experience already lived and for the dialectic between the theoretical development and its practical construction for that it exceeds the limit of science technique, placing the man as subject, history, in a systematic vision, where human social policy dimensions lie. Based on a bibliographycal syudy, discussions on the latest educational politics - that guide extension politics in Brazilian higher education - are presented. Thus, the extension in a social dynamics provides the political practice of theorypractice-experience to the future professional. Therefore, this favors knowing the other and yourself, the value and attitude formation of solidarity, sensibility and love, which are essencial dimensions for comprehensive formation.
