摘要:The Indian Register is the most comprehensive source of fertility data pertaining to Registered Indians. A reasonable time series for the births and population under question can be derived. However, it is well known that registration of births in the Register suffers from data limitations. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the methodologies used to adjust time series data on births and procedures used to derive accurate estimates of fertility, namely total fertility rates. The impact of the 1985 amendments to the Indian Act on deriving accurate fertility rates for Registered Indians is also addressed in the paper.
