摘要:In the third version of Orlando furioso , Ariosto adds a few lines to highlight the good relations that existed between Spain and Italy. It is a providentialist-style text which extols Charles V as the successor of Augustus and the creator of a kind of «pax Hispana» which linked the Old World with the New. I interpret this in the light of an exhibition by Luis Vives on the Golden Age which was based on a text by Virgil, and I compare this with some of the Italian humanist historians, who do not share the uniformitarianism that exists in most of the Spanish chronicles.
