摘要:Life cycle assessment (LCA) has applied to evaluate environmental impacts contributed by two community composting systems which consisted of powder and granular compost production. Main raw materials of these composts were wastes of agricultural and agro industrial activities as animal manures, and solid wastes from palm oil mills and rice mills. Data from field operation of both composting systems were collected and analyzed. Both composting systems were classified into five sub systems consisted of 1) raw materials collection, 2) composting process, 3) electricity consumption, 4) materials transfer, and 5) distribution of compost product to consumers. By applying CML (Centrum voor Milieukunde Leiden) 2 baseline 2000 method, it was found that on both composting systems similar pattern were occurred that composting process sub system was contributed the highest impacts on four categories included acidification potential (AP), eutrophication potential (EP), global warming potential (GWP), and photochemical oxidation potential (POP), while the highest impact on human toxicity potential (HTP) was contributed by distribution sub system. By comparing both systems, it was found that granular compost system was contributed impact 1.08, 1.08, 1.11, 1.05 and 1.34 times higher than powder compost on impact categories of AP, EP, GWP, HTP, and POP, respectively. In order to improve the systems, it was recommended to reduce gaseous emission of composting process, substitution of transportation vehicle fuel, efficiency on electricity consumption, and rearrange the vehicles routes.
