Thin layer chromatographic separation was tried on the extracts of five reversal films and a negative film, available commercially. The couplers separated on TLC could detected by spray of aq. K3Fe (CN) 6 and diethyl-p-phenylenediamine. On the extraction of the dyes from gelatin film by organic solvents and th e separation by TLC, satisfactory results were obtained in the cases of Kodachrome II, Ektachrome X and Fujicolor R-100, but insufficient results in the cases of Agfacolor CT-18 and Sakuracolor R-100. From the red sensitive emulsion layer of unprocessed Kodacolor negative film, a red dye was separated which did not formed cyan dye but changed to pale color by color development or detectionon TLC plate. Visible and infrared spectra of the dyes and colored couplers separated were obtained.
