This involves different processes such as the ability to understand and convey emotions, infer the mental states of others, know and understand social rules. Selective or full impairment of these processes can be found in various pathologies. This is the case in Huntington's disease, a rare genetic neurodegenerative disease, disturbing motor, cognitive, and neuropsychiatric functions. The purpose of this article is to review the current state of knowledge on social cognition disturbances in this disease, on one hand, from a cognitive point of view and on the other hand, in terms of morphological and functional (resting state and activation) brain imaging. The scarcity of investigations on social cognition in Huntington's patients hinders the accurate identification and quantification of their social cognition disturbances, the involvement of executive functions and the link between brain abnormalities and neuropsychological deficits observed in this pathology. However, we will present here the conclusions drawn from early research on this topic.
