摘要:The fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster offers a series of advantages for its use as an eukaryotic in vivo genotoxicity assay system. It is easy to culture, has a short generation time, and the somatic assays are inexpensive because they only need basic laboratory equipment and lowcost material. In addition to the well established and validated test systems that use germ cells, primarily the test for sexlinked recessive lethals, new assays were developed that use somatic tissues, i.e. cells of the eye or wing imaginal disks. These Somatic Mutation And Recombination Tests (SMART) are onegeneration assays which make use of appropriate recessive markers that are expressed on the surface of the eyes or the wings of the adult fly.
