  • 摘要:In gifted children, the lack of synchronicity in the rates of physical, cognitive and social development is a common issue. A high emotional sensibility dernonstrated by such individuais emphasizes the notion that gifted children are different due to being out of phase or out of sync with their social context. The present paper aims to discuss the issue of being different, focusing on the social, emotional and cognitive needs of gifted children, as well as on the various myths that surround the concept of being gifted. The paper also discusses the most modern definitions of giftedness, as opposed to the infiexible views of psychometric tests, focusing especially on theories from Howard Gardner and Joseph Renzulli. Suggestions on how parents, teachers and students should deal with problems due to related misconceptions are also put forward.
