摘要:This essay aims to offer a survey of vocabulary in the General Estoria with a view to emphasise its wealth and value for historical lexicology. A large number of words in the Estoria are unrecorded in alternative sources, while some others only reappear a few centuries later or do not resurface again. This paper deals with the diverse frames of reference where the most significant and frequent words are comprised; likewise, the function of Arabic and Latin words is reassessed in the light of their adaptation to the relevant context. In addition, the article tracks the conditions for the inclusion of learned words in historical narrative, in relation to the partially different motivations of scientific works.
