Some authors consider prospective memory as the prototype of our prospective activity and it is often described as future-oriented episodic memory. Study of prospective memory is very recent and it is only over the last thirty years that some studies have been conducted to describe prospective remembering phases. The main objective of this review article is to define prospective memory and the main concepts associated. Then, reporting the experiments conducted in the field, this review aims to present the different phases required for prospective remembering: processes through the following phases: formation and encoding of the intention, retention, retrieval, evaluation and suppression. Particular attention will be paid to the specificities of memorizing and remembering the special memory that is an intention and the possibilities that the understanding of each step provides in order to improve the functioning of our daily memory.
