摘要:Romania occupies a modest innovation position within the European Union. Since 2000 industrial restructuring in the context of economic growth, foreign direct investment and integration in the European research networks led to an increase in the polarization of research and development (R&D) activities between NUTS3 and even NUTS2 regions. The economic crisis which began in 2009 postponed the positive changes in innovative behavior. This paper highlights the growing disparities in R&D and innovation, and how it is influenced by the unequal distribution of income, measured as GDP per capita. To determine the relationship between R&D intensity and economic performance, the paper sets forth an analysis at NUTS3 level using regression analysis and correlation.
