摘要：Este trabalho demonstra, através da discussão sobre democracia e participação popular, como o desenvolvimento da atividade turística na favela da Rocinha no Rio de Janeiro auxiliou a localidade a ter maior visibilidade perante os órgãos públicos do Estado. Tal comunidade tem modificado sua imagem de local segregado e se transformado em uma potencialidade turística que, se planejada e estruturada, pode gerar benefícios como melhoria dos aspectos urbanos, qualidade de vida para os moradores e sentimento de cidadania, pois a mudança de consciência dos habitantes altera sua posição de consumidor político para agente da política.
其他摘要：This work aims to demonstrate, through the quarrel on democracy and popular participation, as the development of the tourist activity in the slum quarter of the Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro assisted the local - ity to have greater visibility before the public agencies of the State. This community has modified its image of place segregated and if transformed into a tourist that, if planned potentiality and structuralized, can generate benefits as improvement of the urban aspects, quality of life its inhabitants and feeling of citizenship, therefore the change of conscience of its inhabitants modifies position of politics’ consumer for agent of the politics.
