摘要：A imagem corporal é identificada como a representação mental do próprio corpo, construída a partir das dimensões fisiológica, libidinal e social. Os aspectos sociais apresentam maior relevância, haja vista as influências dos valores de estética corporal na contemporaneidade, atingindo com particular intensidade os sujeitos obesos. Este estudo objetivou compreender como os imperativos de estética corporal interferem na constituição da imagem corporal de homens e mulheres obesos mórbidos com idades entre vinte e 43 anos. Adotou-se a História de Vida Focal, utilizando-se como instrumento de coleta de dados a entrevista em profundidade. Resultados indicaram que as mulheres estão mais insatisfeitas com o corpo, sendo o principal motivo as comparações com as imagens midiáticas. Verificou-se que as estruturas sociais são construídas a partir das características corporais do "homem médio". Observaram-se elementos inerentes à distorção da imagem corporal em todas as suas dimensões constitutivas.
其他摘要：Body image is identified as the mental representation of the individual's own body, constructed based on physiological, libidinal and social dimensions. Social factors have the greatest importance, because of the influence of body esthetic values in contemporary society. This affects obese people with particular intensity. The present study aimed to comprehend how the imperatives of body esthetics influence the formation of body image among morbidly obese men and women aged from twenty to 43 years. Focused life history was used as the methodology, and in-depth interviews were the data collection instrument. The results showed that the women were more dissatisfied with their bodies, mainly because of the comparisons with images in the media. It was seen that social structures are built based on the body characteristics of the "average man". Elements inherent to body image distortion were observed in all their constitutive dimensions.
