摘要：La publicación de hallazgos negativos —re- sultados de investigaciones que no logran re- chazar la hipótesis nula— es un fenómeno creciente tanto en las ciencias naturales como sociales. Esta tendencia demanda la genera- ción de criterios para diferenciar hallazgos ne- gativos con valor sustantivo de los que no lo tienen. Mediante una diferenciación entre el valor práctico y el valor sustantivo de los ha- llazgos negativos, este artículo contribuye a esta tarea. Sostiene que los hallazgos negati- vos válidos y con valor sustantivo son aque- llos que contrastan hipótesis prudentes, in- forman debates establecidos, presumen la validez de hipótesis anteriores, y utilizan téc- nicas de análisis más sofisticadas o informa- ción de mejor calidad que estudios anterio- res. Estos hallazgos permiten avanzar en el conocimiento de un fenómeno determina- do y aumentar la sofisticación teórica.
其他摘要：The publication of negative findings —research results that fail to reject the null hypothesis— is a growing phenomenon in social and natural sciences. This tendency demands the generation of criteria to distinguish negative results with substantive value from those with no value. Through a differentiation between practical and substantive value, this article contributes to this enterprise. It holds that negative findings with substantive value are those that inform established debates, presume the validity of previous hypothesis, and use more sophisticated techniques or data than previous studies. These findings allow researchers to advance a further understanding of phenomena, and increase theoretical sophistication.
