摘要：La muerte es un fenómeno común a todos los seres vivos, incluidos los humanos, pero ella y el proceso que en ello culmina son eventos muy variables en cada ser humano. Hasta hace algunas décadas, la muerte era casi exclusivamente un algo dictado por la naturaleza o las paupérrimas condiciones de vida de cada hombre. Con el paso del tiempo y el devenir epidemiológico y demográfico de la transición de salud, la ocurrencia de la muerte se modificó, pero también cambió la intervención que la ciencia médica podía realizar sobre ella. Esto dio origen al surgimiento de movimientos sociales en pos de una muerte alejada del sufrimiento y con un mayor protagonismo por parte del falleciente (lo que corresponde a la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido), pero también se permitió el desarrollo del cuidado paliativo como alternativa a lo anterior y como posibilidad para ejercer un derecho a la muerte digna y contrarrestar al encarnizamiento terapéutico.
其他摘要：Death is a common phenomenon among life beings, including humans, but death and dying are highly variable events in every human being. Until some years ago, death was something dictated by nature or by the poor conditions each man lived. With the time and the epidemiological and demographical facts implied in the health transitions, the way people died changed too, as well as the way the medical science could act upon it. Then, some social forces emerged fighting for a death far from suffering and for a major role played by the dying (which could means the request of euthanasia or assisted suicide). As the same time, palliative care evolved as an alternative to assisted death and as a chance for the right to death with dignity and against medical therapeutic excesses.
