摘要:The methods of struggle have body mass as a criterion of division athletes. Due to this categorization, many athletes choose to reduce body mass in an attempt to tackle smaller and weaker athletes. Fighters practice these techniques reducing weight believing that their chances of success in competitions increase. However, this rapid reduction in weight can impair performance and put at risk the health of the athlete. The aim of this study was to review the practices of weight reduction on fighters and their implications on the health and performance of the athlete. According to the criteria, we found 10 articles. Prevalence was found in studies of the sport judo, year of publication was 2002 to 2012 and had a minimum sample of 12 individuals and a maximum of up to 822 individuals. It is observed that many methods are used for weight loss and they are practiced without proper guidance, bringing risks to health and the performance of the fighters. We conclude the need for monitoring these athletes by professionals and the professional nutritionist will be seen as an integral part of the team and critical to the development of the athlete.
