  • 摘要:This study had as objective to assess qualitatively the food consumption and use of nutrition supplement by male volleyball athletes. Twelve athletes participated from this research, ages 18 to 29. Two retrospective methods were used, with self-applicable closed questionnaires, one for analysis of nutritional supplement usage, and the other to assess the food consumption by means of a markers form of adapted food consumption, according to the Health Ministry, Nutritional Evaluation system (SISVAN). Results revealed that 55,0% of the athletes consumed daily the group of basic food (rice, bread, beans, meat, eggs, milk and/or derivates), 27,8% had the daily habit of vegetables and fruit consumption, and 20% would use often superfluous food (industrialized, embedded, sodas, fritter and candy). 100% used some kind of food supplement, from these, 42,0% used only one supplement, 58% stated the usage of vitamins and minerals, being 75% had as objective the enhancement in training. With these results, it can be concluded that these athletes' food nourishment presents inadequacies when compared to the recommendations described by the food guide for Brazilian population from Health Ministry (MS) and that usage of nutritional supplies is made abusively and without criteria, showing a lack of information and specialized guidance.
