  • 标题:O PERFIL ALIMENTAR E ANTROPOMÉTRICO DE COMPETIDORES ELITE DE CORRIDA DE ORIENTAÇÃO

  • 摘要:This study aims to verify the food profile of usual and pre-competition breakfast of elite level competitors through a cross-sectional research. The subjects were 28 male athletes of the elite level aged from 19 to 48 years. The data were collected at the South American Orienteering Championship in December, 2010. We carried out individual interviews and applied an instrument with identification and anthropometric data: Weight, Height, Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference. The second instrument presented closed questions about nutritional variables and 24-hour dietary recall for usual and pre-competition breakfast. The anthropometric data were classified according to the Ministry of Health (2008). In pre-competition breakfast, the consumption was 3.16g/kg/day carbohydrates, 0.53g/kg/day proteins and 0.92g/kg/day lipids, all below the recommended amount. The eutrophia was prevalent in 93% of the participants, 100% had waist circumference according to the recommended patterns, 75% did not have nutritional counseling and 46% reported to be adequate to consume proteins associated to carbohydrates in pre-competition. Despite eutrophia and waist circumference being in accordance with the recommended patterns, the absence of nutritional counseling promoted inadequate food consumption at usual breakfast and pre-competition breakfast. Researches to investigate the food profile of this population, including the daily food habit, can contribute to sport nutrition, allowing and make visible the need to have a nutritionists included in orienteering sports.
