  • 摘要:The main objective of this work was to find the various common causes of IT project failures in organizations in Ghana. At the end of the day, the main aim of this work was to present to IT professionals and project managers in general, the common causes of IT project failures, to enable them curb these failures by addressing the causes right from the inception of the IT projects. To come out with the findings, questionnaires covering various causes of IT project failures were sent to 95 companies/institutions across the nation with 171 respondents. The respondents were top IT officials and managers in the various companies/institutions. The analysis was based on the premise that there are a number of already known causes of IT project failures from literature, and this work was to re-emphasize some of these causes, as well as establish the causes that are common in organizations in Ghana. The findings revealed that the tilt was more to process failure, and then to expectation failure. Process failure has to do with anything in the project management process that can cause IT projects delivery to fail. Some of these causes revealed were; no quality checks for IT projects, IT projects not completed according to schedule, no specific IT project management methodology followed, revision of scope very often for a particular project, and wrong estimates. For expectation failure, the cause of failure revealed was; project not meeting user’s needs. These causes can be a source of guide to organizations to help them reduce considerably, incidents of IT project failures.
