The closing of the plant of Galletas Fontaneda in 2002, at the time owned by United Biscuits, illustrates the many difficulties associated with this institutional role of the chief executive officer. This teaching case study, written as a document to generate discussion and debate, presents the series of events and decisions made by the various actors involved, highlighting aspects related to leadership, public relations and corporate governance.
