Its value endures as an essential introduction to the history of the Basque people and their five centuries of involvement in the New World. The surviving author, and dean of Basque Studies, William A. Douglass (Professor emeritus of the University of Nevada, Reno) agreed to an interview as we look back on the continuing influence of this seminal book in Basque Studies.
