摘要:This stu dy exa mines the rela tio nship betwe en job te nur e a nd sa tisfa c tion a mong N orth- West University Ma fikeng campus employees. Job tenure wa s operationalised as the period a n employee ha s taken in the current work place (orga nization) and a s working experience which is the cumula tive number of yea rs a n employee has been on a professional career. This is predica ted on the fa ct that job tenur e has not received enough resea rch attention as a determinant of job satisfaction like a ll other variables that have been isola ted in the literature. T he popula tion of the stu dy is a ll ac ade mic a nd su pport staff of N orth-West U nive rsity Ma fik eng ca mpu s. Forty employees were selected r andomly from a cademic and support (non-teaching) employee s to give a sample of 80. Da ta were collected using a structu red questionna ire and subjected to a nalysis using SPSS. Fr equency count a nd perce nta ge s were used to describe the da ta , w hile t-test sta tistics w as used to compa re job sa tisfac tion a nd job performa nce be twe en ca te gor ies of e mployees. Also a c or relation was u sed to test for relationship be twe en job te nur e a nd job satisfa ction. The results show tha t 33 perc ent of a cademic employees were between 46-55 year s. T he re sults on gender of the a ca de mic e mployees shows 80 pe rcent we re ma les; 6 5 per cent we re ma rried, 58 percent ha d at lea st Ma sters De gree s. T he re sult further shows that most of suppor t employees 55 pe rce nt ha d stayed in the same institution for more than 15 yea rs. T he ma jority of support employees earn less than R250 000 whereas the majority of the academic employees a re ea rning above R400 000 per a nnum. T he results sho ws that there is signific ant difference in job sa tisfac tion between support a nd aca demic employees (t = -2.4 8, p < 0.05). Significa nt determina nts of job satisfaction of support employees were age (t = 1.76), work experience (t = -3.09), job tenure (t = 2 .56) a nd income (t = 2.35). Significa nt dete rminants of job satisfa ction of a cademic employees were job tenure (t = -2.32), work experience (t= 2.43), job position (t = 2.18) and type of employment (t = -2.12).
