摘要:The South Africa n Police Service (SAPS) is an orga nisation where employees are exposed to numerous stressfu l and tra umatic episodes whic h affects the employee 's emotion functioning. Although sever al pro-active psychologica l programs e xist within the orga nisation, they do not effec tively a ssist the e mployee with coping with stressors on a n emotion le ve l. The objective of this stu dy was to develop and eva lua te an emotion c ompetence intervention for the SAPS. From the literatur e study, severa l e motion competencie s were found that w ill illustr ate emotion intelligent beha viour. T he criteria, methodology and content to include in an e motion compete nce inter- vention for the SAPS wa s established a nd inclu ded in the development of the intervention. The interv ention w as evalua ted by a panel of experts ( N =13), suggesting only a few minor adaptations. T hese suggestions were incorporated in the fina l emotion competence intervention. Limitations included the sma ll amount of experts tha t evaluated the intervention, as well as the absence o f functiona l SAPS members a s part of the panel of experts. Recommenda tions for future studies were made.
