摘要:T he study sought to investiga te the c au ses a nd e ffects of role ambiguity a s per ceived by hu ma n resource management practitione rs. A quantita tive design wa s used. O ne hundred a nd thirty (61 ma le, 69 fema le) participants responded to a questionnaire on causes and effects of role a mbiguity. D escriptive statistics were used to analyse da ta. Five ca uses of role a mbiguity were identified. These were size a nd complexity of the organisation, ra pid r ate of c ha nge, restrictions on e mploye es' a uthority, va gu ely de fined tasks a nd ta sk interdepe ndence . The per ceived consequ ence s of role a mbiguity we re inte rpersona l tensions, poor self-ima ge, low job satisfa ction, decrea se in affectivity, decrease in propensity to lea ve a nd extr eme behaviour. Recommenda tions to r educe role ambiguity were made
