摘要:T he study explored the socio-demogra phic fa ctors tha t a nchor ca ree r choic e among psyc hology students at the University of Venda in South Africa. Ex post facto research design was employed. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The chi-squa re and t-test were used to test differences in the data profiles. Response frequencies and corresponding percenta ges were calculated. Re sults showed tha t the participa nts a ttended rura l-situa ted public schools. Most ha d either both par ents w ith post sec onda ry edu ca tion or both pa rents with be low sec on dar y education. The majority of the pa rticipants made delayed career decisions. The participa nts were ma inly influenced by parents, tea chers and friends to choose psychology as a career. T he most common method of funding was the bursa ry. The ma jority of students chose psychology a fter completing their seconda ry education. T he present study needs to be replica te d with a lar ge r sample dra wn fr om diver se ac ademic disciplines a nd institutions of higher le arning for genera lisability of the findings
