摘要:In this pa per we report findings from a study tha t sou ght to explore girl students' perc eptions of gender a nd a cademic achievement in the Zimbabwean schools. The study a dopted a qualita tive a pproach in which focu s interviews with fema le high school learners were conducted. Data was analysed through content a nalysis as emerging key issues le d to themes that w ere best ana lyse d by this means. T he study found tha t female students believe that they w ere not on par with boys in terms of tr eatment. T heir trea tment in schools, a t ho me a nd in society led to under-achievement. T he study concluded that female high school students held certain perc eptions which they believed negatively affected their a cademic achievement. The study recommends that gender sensitivity should be taken seriously in schools and in homes a s well as in society at large to ensure that fema le students ha ve positive self-conce pts whic h, inva ria bly, lead to be tter pe rfor ma nce and improved a cademic a tta inme nt.
