摘要:Apart from interna tional narra tive stu dies on school principa ls the use of a na rrative has only been applied in a limited ma nner to studies focusing on school principa ls in South Africa. T he purpose of this article was ther efor e to explore the wa y in which the princ ipal in the study e xhibite d the aspects of the servan t- lea dership model through a narra tive analysis. T he narra tive of a South Afr ican principal wa s interpreted in th e light of the six char acteristics of Laub's servant-leadership orga nisationa l model. The following categories eme rged from the data ana lysis: Valuing pe ople: " I ha ve been extra blessed with a great love for people" ; Deve loping people : Focus on the ' strong points' a nd not the ' wea k points' ; Build ing co mm unity: Star t tru sting a nd using people… it's a general principle"; Display ing authe nticity: "Compa ssion … it's a very small thing, pe rha ps even insignificant" ; Prov iding leade rship: " We are missing something about the child"; and Sharing le adership: "T he secr et of a ny business … is ownership." This study shows the intricate rela tionship between the contextual fa ctors in a particular sc hool a nd the execution of school lea dership, in partic ula r servant-lea de rship.
