摘要：Alcohol use is frequently associated with violence between intima te partners. The re al link between a lcohol a bu se a nd dome stic violence is difficult to esta blish. This study intends to exa mine the pr evalence of dome stic violence in fema les a ttending a psyc hiatric clinic and the role of a lcohol in violence and the na ture of violence. Of the 115 cases seen, 65 were married and formed the sa mple of this study. D omestic violence wa s reported in 95.6% of the cases. O f the 65 pa tients, 28(4 3.1%) ha d alcohol use in their spouses and i n 37(56.9%) it wa s absent or occasiona l use. Majority of the women ha d primary school education, hailed from rural and nuclear families. Ve rbal a bu se, neglec t of w ife and children, among spou ses wa s common in spouse s who were a busing alcohol and there were problems with communica tion, dow ry related issues in spouses who ha d no alcohol related issues.
