摘要:The study investigated the socia l a nd aca demic e xperiences of first yea r students at a university in Zimba bwe. A phenomenological research design was used to conduct the study. Respondents were seven purposefully sampled first yea r students (N = 7: males = 3, fema les = 4, mean age = 24.4 years; a ge ra nging between 18 and 36 years). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each respondent. Conte nt analysis of the responses showed tha t first year students experienced varied social a nd aca demic a djustment problems. The students ov er-relied on social networks a nd efficac ious beliefs to cope with the challenges. T he students ne ed to be exposed to var ious coping resource s to enable them to quickly and smoothly a djust into the new life at university.
