摘要:T he study e xamine d the c hallenges e xpe rie nced by teac he rs when implementing the performa nce ma nageme nt system (PMS) in Zimbabw ean high schools. A qualita tive surve y de sign w as use d. For ty scho ol tea chers a nd five school heads par ticipa ted in the study. The sample for teachers was randomly selec ted while the school hea ds were purposively sele cted from five high schools in Ma svingo pr ovince of Zimba bw e. Da ta were collected u sing questionnaires a nd intervie ws in this study. T he study found that la ck of tra ining o n performance mana gement (PM), abuse of the system by school heads, failure by school management to provide sta ff development programmes, lack of mea ningfu l reward as we ll a s shorta ge of r esourc es were the major obstacles a ffe cting the implementa tion of the system. Recomme ndations thu s mainly focused a t wa ys of mitigating such challen ges so as to revitalise the PMS.
