  • 摘要:This study sought to esta blish students' perceptions of the usefulness of teaching approaches employed by lecturers in one university in Zimba bwe. The study was informed by the constructivist theory of learning. T he study adopted a descriptive su rvey approach w hich utiliz ed both qua litative a nd qu antitative methodologies. Da ta were collecte d from students in five Fa culties in the selected university. A ra ndom sa mple of one hu ndred and ten students, comprising of sixty-five male and forty-five female students participa ted in the study. A semi-structur ed questionna ire wa s used to collect both qua ntitative and qualita tive da ta . Qua ntitative data were ana lysed with the a id of the SPSS statistica l softwa re packa ge ve rsion 21 . Q ua lita tive da ta w ere ana lysed using c onten t ana lysis me tho d a nd pr esente d thr ough ve rba tim qu otations of the re spondents. T he study fou nd tha t students he ld differe nt per ceptions on what the y deemed effe ctive tea ching a ppr oa ches. T he stu dy conclu de s that ex posure to tra ditional approaches to tea ching made students view them as effective. Recommendations were made that a shift from tr aditional lecture a pproa che s wou ld ensure the use of mor e student-centred a pproac he s.
