摘要:Creativity pla ys the key role in inve ntion, innovation a nd proble m solving that improve huma n life. T he objective of this a rticle wa s to develop and assess a tool to mea sure the creativity of university students. In doing so, a litera tur e study of c rea tivity wa s emba rked upon to identify the underlying variables used to measure creativity. The identified variables were then subjected to a factor analysis process and the reliability of the da ta tested. Empirical data was collected from 500 full-time students ra ndomly selected (with a response of 322 ). T he results show ed that a t le ast tw elve fac tors ne ed to be considere d in mea su ring crea tivity, na mely: Cha llenging the status quo, Detachment, Synthesis, Cognition, Associate a nd Communica te, Awa reness, Similarity, Exte rnal motiva tion, Sensitivity, Exper iment and Combine, Dime nsional T hinking a nd Pr oblem-solving. These factors show inhe rent communal properties (correlating positively with existing theory) , a nd could b e grouped into three main c ategorie s, namely: cognitive psychology, e xterna l influence s and pe rsona lity c hara c te ristics. Rega rding reliability, a cceptable Cronbach Alpha coefficients were calcula ted, exceeding the minimum coefficient of 0.70. The a rticle highlights the value of crea tive gra duates a nd the fa ctors that could be utilised to measure the ir crea tivity in a South Africa n tertiar y educa tion conte xt.
