摘要：With the advances in multimedia technologies collection of digital images is growing rapidly. In the last few decades Content Based Image retrieval is very important area of research in the field of image retrieval. Research shows that main challenge in the CBIR systems is the semantic gap. Image annotation is the effective way to bridge a semantic gap between low level features and high level semantics.Many researchers develop and use lots of approaches towards image annotation. Automatic image annotation is the process of automatically assigning semantic labels to images. This paper presents the survey of different approaches for automatic annotation and annotation based image retrieval. This paper aims to cover the latent space and generative approaches for automatic image annotation.
