摘要:In 1913/14, R. Campbell Thompson excavated Wadi Sarga and three nearby sites on behalf of the Byzantine Research Fund. Wadi Sarga proved to be the location of a Late Antique monastery of Apa Thomas, installed in and around earlier gallery quarries. As a result of the beginning of World War I, a full record of the excavation was never published. In 1922, a selection of texts on papyri, ostraca and other surfaces were edited and published ( P.Sarga ), but the extensive non-textual record of the site, its architecture and uninscribed objects, were not. This contribution outlines the history of excavation, publication, collections and their display using archival materials comprised of Campbell Thompson’s unfinished manuscript, field notebooks, plans, tracings, watercolours and photographs
