摘要：The problem of Independence was not a change of forms, but a change of spirit". Jos¨¦ Mart¨ª, thinker of mental emancipation The article is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the question of how to talk today of Jos¨¦ Mart¨ª (Cuba, 1853-1895) and supports the thesis that for speaking of Jos¨¦ Mart¨ª is not sufficient knowing and discussing of his work, but we must try to understand the experiences that have marked its "soul". On this basis, the second part explains that for Jos¨¦ Mart¨ª the problem of independence (politics) in Latin America has been radically the problem of a "change of spirit", meaning by that, rightly, the affirmation of the change of "soul" of the Latin American peoples. The third part summarizes the essential points of the "wisdo m" for Mart¨ª that should be tied to the change in spirit that he proposes
