摘要：Este artículo resume los resultados de una investigación cualitativa sobre las experiencias, expectativas y concepciones sobre la soltería sostenida por un grupo de mujeres, amas de casa y asalariadas, en la mediana edad. En la construcción del propio sentido de vida como mujeres solteras, se debaten tratando de integrar las contradicciones vividas en su condición como tales. Lidian entre ejercer la libertad versus la soledad experimentada por no tener un compañero. Apelan, por un lado, a la designación divina al mismo tiempo que están en espera del hombre ideal para casarse. Asumen la soltería como una circunstancia y las demandas de sus familias en cuanto al cuido de las figuras progenitoras y a otros miembros de sus familias. Finalmente, deben renunciar a tener sus propios hijos y asumir el maternazgo con la descendencia de sus hermanas y hermanos.
其他摘要：This article summarizes the findings of a qualitative research study on the life experience, expectations and view of single woman by a group of middle-aged women, some of them housewives and others employed. In their construction of meaning for their life as single women, they attempt to encompass the contradictions they experience as spinsters. They are torn between the freedom they enjoy and the loneliness they feel for lack of a spouse. On the one hand they believe that their spinsterhood is God's will, and on the other hand they feel the pressure of their families regarding care for the parents and other members of their families. Ultimately they have had to give up the possibility of having their own children, and they have provided motherly care for their siblings' children.
