摘要:The demand for skilled personnel, vocational education and further training in the metropolitan region Nuremberg For almost 10 years the demand for skilled personnel and its scarcity has been discussed. This report focuses on the demand for both skilled personnel and initial education and further training activities of firms in the metropolitan region Nuremberg (MRN). The analysis is based on the data of the IAB Establishment Panel Survey. Overall the MRN is hit by a decline of the population and increasingly ageing labour force. However, during the last few years the labour market exhibited a positive development. There has been an increase in total employment and a decrease in unemployment. The MR Nuremberg is characterized by a high proportion of employees in the production sector with a completed vocational training. In the MRN the proportion of apprentices is relatively high and the apprenticeship labour market has changed in favour of applicants. Furthermore, huge differences are observed between urban and rural areas within the MRN concerning the demand for skilled personnel, in turn leading to differences in the conditions to fill vacancies. The data of the IAB Establishment Panel Survey show that the extent of demand for skilled personnel in the MRN is comparable with Bavaria, West Germany and Germany. But in the MRN the proportion of unfilled vacancies is larger than in other regions. This indicates that the establishments in the MRN face greater challenges to match the demand for skilled personnel. Vocational education and training can be regarded as an opportunity of establishments to recruit skilled personnel. In the MRN the number of firms which fulfil the legal requirements for vocational education and training is higher than the German average. However, apprenticeship places offered by establishments in the MRN were less often filled compared with those in Bavaria, West Germany or Germany. And, there were less further training activities in the MRN. Hence, this might be a chance for the establishments in the MRN to extend these activities in order to reduce the lack of skilled personnel in future. The MRN should communicate potential ideas and strategies transparently in order to bundle and to assist innovative approaches. Under the umbrella of the MRN, urban and rural districts could adopt region-specific strategies to overcome challenges and to use opportunities for inter-regional cooperation.
