摘要：The placement of an outpost has been part of U.S. Army practice since 1775 and even earlier, during frontier militia skirmishes. An outpost is separate from the main body of the force, with the primary duty to observe and report. This column intends to serve ARMY readers by giving them the opportunity to hear from an informed voice about things out there that affect the Army.
