摘要:This Independence Day, as you're looking into a clear eveni ng sky and enjoying your local fireworks show, keep in mind that you are watching the docile descendants of war rockets long used to blow stubborn defenders out of their castles, holes and trenches. Our national anthem recalls the British Royal Navy's un- successful rocket bombardment of Fort McHenry near Bal- timore on September 13¨C14, 1814. Two hundred years later, we still use rockets from helicopters, Field Artillery and In- fantry launchers to smash our way into fortified positions. The brilliant displays we admire each Fourth of July reflect a martial pedigree indeed.
