In addition, we take into account the elderly's level of activities of daily living and quality of life. In this framework, thirty-three healthy young adults (aged 20 to 40) and twenty-nine healthy older adults (aged 65 to 90) participated in our study. Comparisons between the two groups show that the performances of older adults are significantly lower than that of younger participants on all neuropsychological tasks, except on reading, verbal fluency, implicit decision-making, reaction time (number of errors) and tone-paced (1500 ms) tasks. Normal aging seems also characterized by a reduction in the processing speed during the tasks. Furthermore, our results suggest that some of the executive processes and energization skills, explicit decision-making and theory of mind would deteriorate with aging. A positive correlation has been found between the level of activities of daily living and the performances of older adults on executive and energization tasks. From these observations, we confirm the relevance of multidimensional theoretical approach of frontal lobes functioning to study normal cognitive aging.
