摘要:I n recent years, the inflow of unauthorized immigrants across the U.S.-Mexico border seems to have decreased. 1 Th is may be due to a combination of factors, including enforce- ment activit ies carried out by the U.S. federal government and a worsening of economic oppor tunities in the U.S. due to t he Great Recession. In addition, some states have stepped up t heir own efforts to curtail unau- thorized immig ration. For example, Arizona, Alabama, South Carolina and a handf ul of ot hers have adopted t he federal government's E-Verif y program, wh ich compares informa- tion gat hered by employers to records from the U. S. Department of Homeland Secur ity and f rom t he Social Securit y Ad ministration to confi rm employment eligibilit y
