摘要：Th e George Eastman Hou se in Roch ester, New Yo rk, o ne of the world's leading photography museums, has received two Edward Steichen auto - chromes. They are among the few surviv - ing masterpieces from the earliest days of color photography. They were taken by Steichen , probably in Buffalo, and are thought to be portraits of Charlotte Spaulding, a friend and student who became his lumino us subject for the portraits. As far as any - one k nows, the pho to graphs were never displayed and were kep t in a cupboard or closet for decades. Because the pho - tographs had sat for so lon g out of the light, their colors remained particularly vivid.
