摘要:Art can be a good exploratory modality to elicit the unconscious feelings of an individual. It can guide a therapist to discover the emotional conflicts and distresses, which may not be possible in routine clinical interview settings. The objectives of the case study are to use art as an exploratory modality to reach the unconscious and preconscious state of mind and facilitating the resolution of grief in an adolescent girl with unresolved grief. A 13-year-old girl, who lost her mother one year prior, had presented with school refusal, episodes of aggressive behaviour, and attempts of deliberate self-harm for the last two months. The child was worried about scholastic difficulties, changing attitude of her father and brother towards her after the death of her mother. Detailed history did not reveal any interpersonal conflicts. Projective test Draw a Person Test (DAPT) was administered for exploring the underlying conflicts. After evaluation of clinical history, serial mental status examination, projective psychometric tests and evaluation of the paintings she had done, various areas were identified where the child was facing significant problems.
