Este trabajo es un análisis de Mujeres en la alborada (1992), testimonio de Yolanda Colom. La autora, perteneciente a la clase media alta guatemalteca, toma partido por la Revolución y relata sus experiencias como guerrillera entre 1973 y 1978. A pesar de que han pasado más de 40 años de los episodios relatados en esta obra, el hecho de que el libro lleve cuatro ediciones (la última en 2013), es prueba de la actual validez de aquella lucha por una sociedad más justa. Se analiza este texto como testimonio femenino y se sitúa a la autora en la larga tradición del ensayo en Guatemala y dentro de la tradición más reciente del género testimonio en Centroamérica.

This article provides an analysis of Yolanda Colom’s testimonio, Mujeres en la alborada, first published in 1998 (written in 1992). Colom is an upper-middle class woman in Guatemala who aligns herself with the Guatemalan revolution and writes about her experiences in the ranks of the guerrillas from 1973-1978. The fact that more than 40 years have passed since the episodes described in the text and the successful publication of the fourth edition of Colom’s work (2013) attests to its contemporary validity and to the continued validity of the fight for a more just Guatemalan society. In addition to an analysis of this testimonio femenino, the article situates Colom’s work within the long standing literary tradition of essay in Guatemala and within the more recent género testimonio in Central America.
