摘要：The main purpose of this study is to explore and examine the rhetorical structure of Iranianand English computer research articles (RAs) discussions by means of comparing movestructures as presented in discussion sections of English and Persian computer RAs with thepurpose of recognizing rhetorical preferences used by English and Persian authors in thisparticular area. To this end, 46 research articles written by native English writers and nativePersian writers were analyzed based on Swales' (1990) Eight-Move Structure (EMS) to find outthe conventions or moves of discussion sections. Frequency and Chi-square test were used toexamine the difference between the two groups of discussion sections. The results of the studydemonstrated that Move 1 "Background Information" and Move 2 "Statement of Results" werepresent in the majority of English RAs and they were identified as the most frequently usedmoves or "Conventional Moves", while only Move 2 "Statement of Results" was identified as themost frequently used move or "Conventional Move" in the Persian corpus. Moreover, thefindings showed that the majority of RAs discussions across the two corpora were opened withMove 1 "Background Information". The findings of this study are hoped to add to the body ofknowledge in the realm of ESP studies
