摘要:Fiber Raman amplifiers (FRAs) are attractive for ultra widedense wavelength division multiplexing (UW-DWDM)transmission systems due to their advantages of broadamplification bandwidth and flexible central wavelength. Withrecent developments of optical pump sources with high powernear 1.4 μm wavelength and highly nonlinear fiber having apeak effective Raman gain coefficient more than ten times thatof conventional single mode fiber, distributed FRAs (DFRAs)are emerging as a practical optical amplifier technology,especially for opening new wavelength windows such as theshort and ultra long wavelength bands. Optical pump powersrequired for Raman amplification were significantly higher thanthat for Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), and the pumplaser technology could not reliably deliver the required powers.However, with the improvement of pump laser technologyRaman amplification is now an important means of expandingspan transmission reach and capacity. In the present paper, wehave deeply investigated the proposed model for opticaldistributed fiber Raman amplifiers in the transmission signalpower and pump power within Raman amplification techniquein co-pumped, counter-pumped, and bi-directional pumpingdirection configurations through different types of fiber cablemedia. The validity of this model was confirmed by usingexperimental data and numerical simulations.
